Wayne and Coleen Rooney feature in new Disney+ documentary series

The new Disney+ documentary series, ‘The Real Rooneys’, follows the lives of former footballer Wayne Rooney and his wife, Coleen, over the course of a pivotal year. The ten-part series captures the family as Wayne transitions away from football management and Coleen pursues new career opportunities, while they navigate the challenges of raising their four sons.

During the filming of the series, the family traveled to Poland, including a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial site. Coleen Rooney stated that the visit was not a production requirement but a personal decision driven by their son Kit’s interest in learning about World War II history. Wayne Rooney emphasized the importance of educating children about both the good and bad aspects of history.

Speaking at the series premiere in London, Coleen Rooney noted that the show is intended to present them as ‘real people’ rather than a means to correct public misconceptions. She observed that while much of public life is now shared via social media, the family felt ready to open up more through a traditional documentary format.
