Wayne Leslie Hartas sentenced to prison for child exploitation in Brisbane

Wayne Leslie Hartas, a 49‑year‑old man, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court to ten offences, including administering a child‑exploitation website, grooming a 15‑year‑old boy and filming two young boys, aged 10 and seven, in a public toilet at a shopping centre. He was a member and later administrator of an encrypted group chat called “Aussie mates”, which had about 90 participants. Police recovered roughly 1,700 images and 68 videos of child sexual abuse on his phone.

Judge Tracy Fantin rejected the defence’s request for a suspended sentence, describing the conduct as “extremely serious” and an affront to community protection. Hartas was ordered to serve the remainder of his sentence in custody, with the court emphasizing the harm to the children depicted in the material.
