Wayne Madsen signs new red-ball contract with Derbyshire

Veteran batter and captain Wayne Madsen has signed a new one-year red-ball contract with Derbyshire for the 2027 season. This agreement marks his 19th season with the club since joining in 2009.

The deal is specifically for red-ball cricket, following Madsen’s retirement from domestic T20 cricket in July 2026. Having amassed over 24,000 runs and 52 centuries across all formats for the club, Madsen will focus exclusively on the County Championship.

Madsen, who is South African-born, noted that the arrangement accommodates his family's recent relocation back to South Africa. He expressed a continued ambition to help the team return to Division One.
