Wayne Mardle: The career of the darts commentator and former player

Wayne Mardle, known by his nickname ‘Hawaii 501’, is a prominent figure in the world of professional darts. While he never secured a world championship title, he earned a reputation as a fan favorite through his performances on stage and later transitioned into a role as a distinctive commentator and analyst.

Born in Dagenham in 1973, Mardle began playing darts at age eleven. He showed early talent, hitting his first 180 just two weeks after starting serious practice. His professional journey included significant time in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) circuit, notably reaching the semi-finals of the Lakeside World Championship in 2001 after defeating players such as Co Stompé and Ronnie Baxter. In 2003, Mardle moved to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to continue his career.
