Wayne Rooney reveals Polish Jewish roots in new series

In his new Disney documentary series, ‘The Real Rooneys’, former England striker Wayne Rooney reveals that he recently discovered his maternal grandmother’s family had Polish Jewish roots. The series depicts a family trip to Poland, where Wayne, his wife Coleen, and their two sons visited Kraków and Auschwitz.

The visit to Auschwitz was prompted by the interest of Rooney’s 10-year-old son, Kit, who had been studying the Second World War in school. Rooney noted that this was his second visit to the site, having previously visited in 2012.

The ten-episode series also follows Rooney’s life after his football career, including his transition to family life following his departure from coaching at Plymouth Argyle. Additionally, Rooney has addressed recent changes in his appearance, explaining that he underwent nasal surgery to correct issues resulting from breaking his nose twice during his professional playing career.
