Google's Waze adds Gemini AI features and dedicated motorcycle mode
On July 13 2026 Google rolled out a major update to its Waze navigation app. The update deepens integration with Google’s Gemini large‑language‑model, enabling conversational voice search (e.g., “find a coffee shop that’s open now”), natural‑language incident reporting, and AI‑generated map updates. It also adds personalized routing that learns a driver’s past trips and preferences, with an optional “less chatty” voice mode that reduces non‑essential prompts.
A new Motorcycle Mode uses Gemini to calculate routes suited to two‑wheelers, incorporating AI‑identified shortcuts, road‑type restrictions and real‑time hazard alerts for potholes, speed bumps, raised crosswalks, narrow bridges and other rider‑specific dangers. The mode launches in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Philippines, with further expansion planned. All features are being released globally on Android and iOS, with users able to disable personalization or the motorcycle mode in settings.
