WBA elevates Anthony Cacace and Elnur Samedov to championship status

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has issued a resolution to resolve a logistical dispute in the super featherweight division by elevating both Anthony Cacace and Elnur Samedov to championship status.

Following the British Boxing Board of Control's refusal to license Samedov due to issues regarding his Russian citizenship and residency documentation, the WBA has designated Cacace as Super Champion and Samedov as champion. This allows Cacace to proceed with a voluntary defense against a WBA-ranked opponent, potentially Nick Ball, before December 31, 2026.

The resolution mandates that the winner of the Cacace bout must face Samedov in a mandatory championship consolidation fight. This bout must take place in neutral territory at a venue approved by all parties. The winner of the Cacace fight will have 12 days to confirm participation in the mandatory bout against Samedov. The WBA has stated that no title unification bouts may occur until the division has a single champion.
