WBC orders Carlos Adames to face winner of Ramos-Nursultanov bout

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has ordered 160-pound champion Carlos Adames to defend his title against the winner of the September 19 bout between Jesus Ramos Jr. and Meiirim Nursultanov.

This ruling effectively blocks an immediate middleweight unification fight between Adames and WBO champion Denzel Bentley. The WBC has also prohibited Adames from participating in any intervening bouts while waiting for the outcome of the Ramos-Nursultanov match. This decision also halts previously discussed plans for Adames to move up to the super middleweight division to challenge Osleys Iglesias.

Jesus Ramos Jr., the 25-year-old interim champion, has been pursuing Adames for some time. His opponent, Meiirim Nursultanov, earned his interim status following a victory over Shane Mosley Jr. last year. The winner of the September 19 contest will advance directly to a championship fight against Adames, who last defended his belt in March with a unanimous decision victory over Austin Williams.
