WBUR CEO Margaret Low to step down in June 2027
Margaret Low, the first individual to hold the title of CEO at Boston’s WBUR, has announced she will retire from the position in June 2027. Following her departure, Low intends to join the station’s Board of Directors in the fall.
Low assumed the CEO role in January 2020 after serving as a Senior Vice President at The Atlantic. Her career includes 25 years at NPR in various leadership and production roles. During her tenure at WBUR, she managed the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and a $1.6 million annual reduction in federal public media funding in 2025. She also oversaw the expansion of CitySpace and the launch of the WBUR Festival.
The WBUR board has already engaged a search firm to begin the process of finding her successor.
