WCA International fund manager faces indictment for 2.2 billion CZK fraud
Czech police have proposed indictments against an individual and a business entity regarding an investment fraud involving the WCA International fund, with damages exceeding 2.2 billion CZK. The case affects more than 6,000 clients who were promised returns through investments in currency pairs, global indices, precious metals, and various bonds or startups.
Investigators from the National Center for Combating Organized Crime suspect the fund manager did not actually perform the promised investment activities. Instead, the scheme allegedly functioned as a Ponzi scheme, where client deposits were used to cover operating costs, intermediary fees, personal expenses, and payments to previous investors.
Authorities state that the suspect used investor funds to purchase real estate in the United Arab Emirates, luxury vehicles, a motorboat, and silver bullion. The individual remains at liberty and faces up to ten years in prison, with the Olomouc Regional State Prosecutor's Office set to decide on the indictment.
