WDODelta to invest 129 million euros in waterworks renovation
Waterschap Drents Overijsselse Delta (WDODelta) has launched an extensive eight-year renovation program for its waterworks, valued at 129 million euros. The project, running from 2026 to 2034, aims to modernize dozens of pumping stations and weirs to ensure reliable water level management in canals, rivers, and ditches.
To address the challenges of climate change, such as heavier rainfall and prolonged droughts, the water board is focusing on making its infrastructure more flexible and future-proof. The program involves the annual renovation or replacement of 15 to 20 facilities.
Instead of conducting separate tenders for every individual project, WDODelta is utilizing a collaborative model with three fixed contractors: Van Heteren Weg- en Waterbouw, Aannemingsbedrijf Dubbink Vriezenveen, and Aannemingsbedrijf Schouls. This approach uses three permanent construction teams to facilitate knowledge sharing, improve efficiency, and foster mutual trust through long-term cooperation.
