Wealthy donors contribute $849 million ahead of U.S. midterms

A review of federal campaign finance data reveals that approximately $849 million has been donated by a group of 25 wealthy individuals and families ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. The scale of spending is comparable to the final stages of a presidential campaign.

Major contributors include the Soros family, with combined political giving reaching over $103 million through various organizations and PACs. Other significant donors include Jeff Yass, who has contributed roughly $92.6 million to conservative causes, and Elon Musk, who has donated more than $90 million, largely through America PAC.

Additional high-level donors identified include Walmart heir Jim Walton, casino heiress Miriam Adelson, and the Uihlein family. The data also highlights the influence of emerging sectors, with contributions from OpenAI President Greg Brockman and his wife, Anna, totaling about $50 million, alongside significant involvement from cryptocurrency-linked political giving.
