Apple Watch adds FDA‑approved hypertension alerts for users
Apple has received FDA clearance to enable hypertension notifications on its Apple Watch. The feature, launched in September 2025, is available on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Ultra 3, provided the device runs the latest watchOS and is paired with an iPhone 11 or newer. Users must be at least 22 years old, not pregnant and not already diagnosed with hypertension.
Apple forecasts that more than one million people with undiagnosed high blood pressure will receive a notification within the first year. The company advises users to stay calm, consult a healthcare professional for confirmatory testing, and follow medical guidance. Hypertension affects roughly 1.4 billion adults worldwide, making early detection a significant public‑health opportunity.
The rollout covers over 150 countries, but the guidance and regulatory details are anchored in the United States, where the FDA approval was granted.
