Denmark electricity prices fluctuate amid seasonal shifts

Electricity prices in Denmark have seen significant volatility in October. Data from Norlys indicates that midday electricity prices (between 12:00 and 15:00) rose by up to 92 percent in Western Denmark and 82 percent in Eastern Denmark compared to September. This increase is attributed to declining solar production during the autumn transition and high gas prices linked to geopolitical tensions near the Strait of Hormuz.

Conversely, high wind speeds are expected to drive prices down significantly over the upcoming weekend. Forecasts suggest that wind energy production will push average prices to approximately 0.25 DKK/kWh, marking the first time in October that prices have consistently remained below 1 DKK/kWh for a full day. This trend is expected to continue into Sunday, offering cost-effective opportunities for electric vehicle charging.
