Andalusia deactivates flood emergency plan after heavy storms

The Junta de Andalucía has deactivated its operational flood emergency plan following a period of intense rainfall and storms. The decision, announced by Vice President Antonio Sanz, comes as meteorological warnings have subsided across the region.

During the emergency period, which began on October 17, the 112 Emergency Service coordinated nearly 700 incidents. The province of Almería was the most affected with 180 emergencies, followed by Cádiz with 156 and Málaga with 154. Most reported incidents involved natural risks such as flooding and inundations, alongside service disruptions, rescues, and traffic issues.

In addition to the emergency response, authorities conducted a large-scale aviation accident simulation at Seville Airport to test coordination between 18 different agencies and local hospitals. The exercise recreated a major aircraft fire involving a commercial jet to evaluate the capacity of the Civil Protection Emergency Plan.
