Weather alerts issued for Syria and Egypt amid atmospheric instability
Severe weather warnings have been issued for Syria and Egypt as atmospheric instability affects both regions.
In Syria, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management warned of heavy rainfall, strong thunderstorms, and hail starting Wednesday evening, October 14, through Thursday, October 15, 2026. The coastal and northwestern regions are expected to be most affected, with potential extensions to Raqqa, Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, Hama, and Homs. The ministry cautioned against approaching valleys, crossing flooded roads, and staying near isolated trees or electrical towers, noting the risk of strong downdrafts and dust storms.
In Egypt, the General Authority for Meteorology reported that a low-pressure system will impact most governorates starting Wednesday. Expected phenomena include sand and dust-stirring winds, with visibility potentially dropping below 1,000 meters in certain desert and coastal areas. While temperatures may see a temporary slight increase, the Mediterranean Sea is expected to experience turbulent maritime conditions with waves reaching up to 4.5 meters. Specific warnings were issued for the Matrouh governorate and coastal areas regarding rainfall and maritime navigation.
