Weather extremes cause drought in Yecapixtla and flooding in Cuautitlán Izcalli

Extreme weather conditions are impacting various municipalities in Mexico. In Yecapixtla, Morelos, a severe drought is causing significant losses for agricultural producers due to water scarcity and high dryness. While the lack of rain has increased the presence of dry material, municipal Civil Protection Director Pedro Galicia reported that grassland fires remain under control, with only two incidents recorded so far.

In contrast, Cuautitlán Izcalli in the State of Mexico is facing severe flooding caused by heavy seasonal rains. The flooding has overwhelmed municipal infrastructure, leading to paralyzed traffic, collapsed walls, and water entering homes in neighborhoods such as Atlanta. Local residents and business leaders have criticized Mayor Daniel Serrano Palacios, alleging that the government's preventative measures and desilting efforts have been insufficient to protect thousands of inhabitants.
