Spain weather: Floods and storms cause death and transport chaos FAST-MOVING
Severe storms and torrential rainfall have struck the Mediterranean coast of Spain, causing significant disruption across Catalonia and the Valencian Community. In Barcelona, a man was found dead in Olivella after his vehicle was swept away by a flash flood.
In Valencia, the weather triggered an ES-Alert and an orange alert for storms. The intense precipitation, with some areas recording over 100 liters per square meter, led to the temporary closure of Valencia Airport and caused service suspensions for Metrovalencia and various rail lines. Schools in several municipalities across Valencia and Alicante were also suspended.
Emergency services managed hundreds of incidents, including flooding in tunnels, fallen trees, and localized infrastructure damage. While many areas are returning to normalcy, authorities continue to monitor the situation as instability persists in the region.
