Balkan region faces heavy rain and flash flood warnings
A significant weather shift is impacting the Balkan region, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and a sharp drop in temperatures. In Slovenia, orange weather warnings have been issued for the southwest due to extreme precipitation, with some areas recording up to 96 mm of rain in a single morning. Authorities warn of potential flash floods and rising water levels.
In Croatia, orange alerts are in effect for the Primorsko-goranska County and Gorski Kotar due to the risk of heavy rain and flash floods. Local authorities in Rijeka have placed municipal services on high alert to manage drainage and construction site safety. The Adriatic coast is also bracing for strong to stormy winds.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is experiencing the end of ‘Indian summer’ as a cold front moves in. Forecasts predict widespread rain and thunderstorms, with specific warnings issued for the Neretva and Trebižat river basins regarding potential flash flooding. Temperatures are expected to fall significantly over the coming days, transitioning from warm autumn conditions to much cooler, unstable weather across the region.
