Villarrica Volcano placed under yellow alert due to increased activity

The Villarrica Volcano in southern Chile has been placed under a yellow alert by the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) due to increased volcanic activity. Monitoring agencies have detected a sustained rise in seismic activity, incandescence, and the emission of ballistic pyroclasts. Additionally, satellite imagery has indicated an increase in surface temperature within the crater, suggesting that the lava lake may be rising toward the surface.

In response, Senapred has activated a Preventive Early Warning for the Chilean communes of Villarrica, Pucón, Curarrehue, and Panguipulli to reinforce monitoring and risk management. While the volcano is located entirely within Chilean territory, authorities in the neighboring Argentine province of Neuquén are closely monitoring the situation. The Neuquén Secretariat of Emergencies and Risk Management has stated that there is currently no direct impact on Argentine territory, but local civil protection agencies remain on permanent alert.
