Mexico conducts National Drill 2026 amid weather warnings

In Mexico, the Second National Drill 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, at 12:00 PM. The exercise, directed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, aims to strengthen civil protection and emergency response. Authorities announced that seismic alerts will be activated via loudspeakers and mobile phones in 32 states, reaching over 80 million devices to raise public awareness and test family preparedness.

Simultaneously, the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) has issued safety recommendations due to forecasted heavy rains, thunderstorms, and electrical discharges across several Mexican states, including Baja California Sur, Sonora, and the Yucatan Peninsula. Residents are advised to avoid water bodies and stay away from electrical structures.

In Chile, weather forecasts for the Fiestas Patrias holidays indicate varying conditions. While some areas will experience stable weather, a frontal system is expected to bring humidity and potential drizzle to the central coast, with increased cloudiness and rain moving toward the southern regions.

In Paraguay, weather patterns show a transition from cool to warm temperatures, with instability expected by Friday, bringing scattered rains and occasional thunderstorms.

In Chile, supermarket chains have announced modified operating hours for Thursday, September 17, ahead of the mandatory holidays on September 18 and 19, with some locations closing as early as 7:30 PM.
