Latin America faces extreme weather from cyclones to El Niño droughts
Various regions in Latin America are experiencing significant weather shifts. In Uruguay, a red alert has been issued for the coast due to an extratropical cyclone capable of producing wind gusts exceeding 120 km/h. Additionally, Inumet projects a higher probability of above-normal rainfall in the northeast for the August-October period, driven by the strengthening El Niño phenomenon.
In the Dominican Republic, El Niño is causing a severe drought, drastically reducing dam and reservoir levels. Production at the Haina-Manoguayabo and Isabella aqueducts has dropped by 68% and 65% respectively, impacting water supplies in several municipalities.
Venezuela is facing atmospheric instability caused by tropical wave number 40, resulting in variable rainfall and electrical activity, particularly in the eastern states. Meanwhile, Paraguay is experiencing stable weather with cold mornings and warmer afternoons, while Honduras is hosting the XVIII National Civil Engineering Congress to discuss infrastructure resilience against climate change.
