Extreme weather: Heat deaths rise in Andalusia and storms hit Valencia and Veracruz

Multiple regions are experiencing severe weather events, including extreme heat and intense rainfall. In Andalusia, Spain, the MoMo monitoring system reported 430 deaths linked to excessive temperatures between May 15 and August 13, 2026, representing a 172% increase compared to the previous year. Seville recorded the highest mortality with 150 deaths.

In the Valencian Community, Spain, Aemet has issued orange alerts for heavy rain and storms. Torrential downpours in Castellón reached extraordinary levels, with Bejís recording 186.2 liters per square meter in a single afternoon, accompanied by wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h.
