Yogyakarta PSEL waste-to-energy project to begin construction in December 2026

The Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) project in the Piyungan area of Bantul, Yogyakarta, is proceeding as planned despite previous delays. The project aims to address regional waste issues by converting 1,000 tons of waste per day into approximately 18–20 megawatts of electricity.

Fadli Rahman, CEO of PT Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara, announced that the groundbreaking is targeted for December 2026, with construction expected to run through 2028. The facility is projected to be fully operational by the third or fourth quarter of 2028. The estimated investment for the project is between Rp2.5 trillion and Rp3 trillion.

A cooperation agreement was signed by the Yogyakarta City, Bantul Regency, and Sleman Regency governments to facilitate the development. Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X noted that the project serves as a long-term solution to waste management, utilizing third-party investment to overcome local capacity limitations. The facility is designed according to European standards.
