Argentina endures cold snap and snow alerts across multiple provinces on July 22

A cold front sweeping Argentina on 22 July brought low temperatures, rain, sleet and snow to several provinces. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional issued yellow alerts for snowfall in Neuquén, Misiones (storm alert) and red alerts for extreme cold in Chubut and Santa Cruz, with minima reaching –5 °C in Sarmiento and –4 °C in Comodoro Rivadavia.

Cities such as La Plata, Necochea, Quequén, Tres Arroyos and Bariloche were forecast to see temperatures between 3 °C and 14 °C, lingering cloud cover and occasional light rain or drizzle. In the Andean zones, snow accumulations of 20‑50 cm were expected, while lower areas faced 10‑30 cm.

The storm also disrupted electricity in San Juan’s Calingasta district, where heavy snow, wind and reduced visibility forced Naturgy to deploy crews and equipment to restore power. Authorities warned of health risks from prolonged exposure to the cold and advised residents to limit travel, use heating safely and keep emergency supplies ready.
