Canary Islands and Costa Rica face weather instability
The Canary Islands are experiencing shifting weather patterns. Following the influence of moisture from the post-tropical cyclone Gonzalo, the archipelago faces a period of instability characterized by cloud cover, occasional showers, and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. While the calima (dust haze) is expected to diminish, temperatures remain high, with some areas potentially exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
In Gran Canaria, the government has officially ended the high-level forest fire alert as of Monday morning, though a pre-alert remains in effect for the island and western islands due to lingering environmental dryness and high temperatures.
Separately, in Costa Rica, heavy rainfall has impacted several sectors including the Central Valley, North Caribbean, and Sarapiquí. The National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported incidents in El Guarco due to saturated sewage systems and is monitoring areas prone to flooding and river overflows.
