Extreme weather patterns affect Spain, Peru, and South America
Multiple regions across Spain, Peru, Uruguay, and Paraguay are experiencing significant weather shifts as spring begins.
In Spain, a heatwave driven by African air is affecting the Canary Islands, with Gran Canaria seeing temperatures up to 38°C and fire alerts in place. Bilbao is also facing high temperatures reaching 35°C due to southern winds.
In Peru, the onset of spring is being influenced by El Niño, leading to unseasonably high temperatures. Senamhi reports that Lima could see peaks of 30°C to 32°C, with a national red alert issued for heat in over 20 regions.
Uruguay is seeing a transition from cold mornings to warmer afternoons, with Montevideo expected to maintain temperatures above 20°C for several days. Meanwhile, Paraguay is preparing for a sharp temperature rise, moving from morning lows of 8°C to weekend highs potentially reaching 39°C.
