Weather patterns shift as autumn arrives and El Niño impacts winter forecasts

Meteorological autumn has arrived, bringing a mix of seasonal transitions and long-term weather shifts. In the Czech Republic, daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius, with some southeastern areas reaching 27 degrees. However, significant temperature fluctuations are occurring, with morning temperatures dropping as low as 11 degrees in some areas and even reaching 4 degrees below zero in the Šumava region. A more pronounced cooling trend is anticipated in the second half of September.

On a broader scale, the El Niño phenomenon is influencing winter forecasts across Europe, North America, and Canada. Current projections suggest that much of Europe will experience less snowfall than usual due to warmer, moisture-rich westerly and southwesterly airflows. While high-altitude areas like the Alps and northern regions may see more snow, much of the continent is expected to have below-average precipitation. Notably, February, which was previously expected to see heavy snow, is now forecasted to have below-average snowfall across most central, western, northwestern, and southern regions.
