Climate change drives extreme heat and global wildfires

Global climate patterns are showing signs of extreme volatility, characterized by record-breaking heatwaves and widespread wildfires. In the Mediterranean, intense summer heat has fueled devastating fires, while Canada has also faced significant wildfire activity. Notably, Greenland experienced unprecedented simultaneous fires in mid-June, a phenomenon rare for such northern latitudes.

Despite these environmental shifts and the alarming state of glaciers in the Alps and Himalayas, there is a perceived lack of decisive policy action. The United Nations has indicated that the goal of limiting global temperature increases to 1.5 °C may be increasingly unattainable. Critics note that many nations and the European Union continue to relax policies regarding global warming mitigation despite the escalating frequency of extreme weather events.
