Weather shift brings cooler temperatures and storms after heatwaves

A shift in weather patterns is expected to bring cooler temperatures and unstable conditions following a period of intense heat. A low-pressure system moving from Scandinavia toward Spain is expected to push high-pressure systems toward Central Europe, leading to increased cloud cover, showers, and localized thunderstorms.

In the Franche-Comté region, temperatures have reached record levels, with Besançon recording 38.4°C on Friday, August 14. This marks a significant departure from previous heatwave benchmarks. While temperatures are expected to begin dropping this Sunday, heat remains a factor with peaks of 32-33°C anticipated mid-week in some areas.

A more substantial weather change, including significant rainfall, is forecasted to arrive by late next week as Atlantic disturbances replace the persistent anticyclonic regime that has dominated Western Europe since mid-May.
