Weather system brings rain to Spain and Canary Islands

A new DANA (a high-altitude isolated low-pressure system) is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of Spain during the Puente del Pilar long weekend. The system is projected to form between the Gulf of Cádiz and the Canary Islands on Thursday, remaining in that area through Saturday before moving east over North Africa.

The Canary Islands are expected to experience significant rainfall starting Friday, October 9, with heavy showers possible on several islands. On the mainland, lighter showers are anticipated in southern and eastern Andalusia, specifically affecting the provinces of Cádiz, Málaga, and Granada. Ceuta, Melilla, and the Balearic Islands may also see precipitation.

Saturday is expected to see continued activity in the Canary Islands, particularly in mountainous areas, while eastern levant winds may contribute to showers in Cádiz, Málaga, Granada, Ceuta, and Melilla. Temperatures are also expected to drop as cold polar air enters the country, leading to cooler nights.
