Weather updates for Mauritius and Réunion show rain and swells

Weather patterns across the Indian Ocean region show significant precipitation and wind activity. In Mauritius, increasing cloud cover is expected following a sunny morning. Intermittent rain is forecasted for the east, south, and central plateau, driven by moderate trade winds. Coastal temperatures are expected to reach up to 29°C, while the highlands will see temperatures between 21°C and 24°C. Sea conditions are noted as rough, with swells of 3 meters beyond the reefs, leading to advisories against sea outings in the eastern and southern lagoons.

In Réunion, recent heavy rainfall has provided relief following a prolonged period of drought. Between August 9 and 10, humid trade winds brought substantial precipitation to the eastern facade of the island. Several sectors, including Salazie, Plaine des Palmistes, and Bras-Panon, recorded rainfall totals that already exceed the typical monthly averages for August. For instance, Bellecombe-Jacob recorded 360 mm since the start of the month, surpassing the monthly norm of 198 mm. While these rains are considered a welcome development for the water deficit, Météo-France indicates that the weather is expected to shift toward drier conditions starting Tuesday.
