Web accessibility shows incremental progress in WCAG compliance
Data from the WebAIM million indicates incremental progress in web accessibility between 2019 and 2023. While the aggregate number of homepages free from automatically detectable WCAG errors improved by only 1.5%, specific technical areas showed more notable declines in errors.
Key improvements include a 14.5% decrease in missing document language, a 9.8% reduction in missing alternative texts, an 8% drop in empty links, and a 6.9% decrease in missing form input labels. Despite these gains, the data suggests that achieving full web accessibility remains a significant challenge.
