WEBA furniture chain hit by cyberattack and data theft

Belgian furniture retailer WEBA has reported a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of customer data. The breach occurred on August 10, when hackers gained unauthorized access to parts of the company’s IT systems and installed ransomware.

The stolen information reportedly includes customer names, physical addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and details regarding orders and purchases. However, the company stated that online account passwords were not compromised. WEBA confirmed that they did not pay a ransom and were able to restore operations using backups after working with cybersecurity experts.

The cybercriminal group Qilin has claimed responsibility for the attack. While stores in Ghent, Deinze, Mons, and Tongeren, as well as the online shop, returned to operation on August 12, the company has advised customers to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts, particularly regarding suspicious emails about outstanding balances.
