Weber shuts down cloud services for June smart ovens

The number of non-functional smart home devices is increasing as companies discontinue support for connected products. Most recently, Weber shut down the app and cloud services for the June Oven, a high-end smart cooking appliance developed by former Apple engineers.

While the oven remains functional as a standard appliance, users have lost access to app controls, software updates, and AI-driven food recognition features. Weber declined to open-source the technology, citing intellectual property ties to its Weber Connect platform.

The June Oven joins a growing list of discontinued smart products, including Nest Secure, Belkin’s WeMo line, Neato robot vacuums, and Bose SoundTouch speakers. While some devices are salvaged through local protocols like Zigbee or HomeKit, many others become effectively unusable once cloud support ends.
