Webpage prototypicality boosts user attitudes toward banks, study finds
A recent study examined the effect of webpage prototypicality—the degree to which a site follows typical design conventions—on users' attitudes toward commercial banks. Using the elaboration likelihood model, researchers conducted an online experiment on banking websites and found that higher prototypicality significantly improved overall user attitudes and the banks' attractiveness as employers.
The research also showed that prototypicality mediates the influence of message strength on attitudes, suggesting that design conformity can enhance the impact of persuasive content. The findings contribute to human‑computer interaction and information systems literature and offer practical guidance for effective web design in the digital economy.
