WebRTC technology can bypass VPN encryption to leak IP addresses

WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) technology in major browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge can create security vulnerabilities by bypassing VPN encryption. While WebRTC is designed to facilitate high-speed, peer-to-peer connections for tasks such as video streaming and voice calls, it can inadvertently leak a user's real IP address.

By establishing a direct connection to another device, WebRTC can bypass the encrypted Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) tunnel established by a VPN. This exposure allows cyberattackers to intercept identifying information. To mitigate this risk, users may need to manually configure security settings within their VPN software or directly within their web browser settings.
