Websol Energy System secures land in West Bengal for 4 GW solar facility

Websol Energy System Limited has secured approximately 54.20 acres of land from the West Bengal government at Falta Industrial Park for a new greenfield solar manufacturing facility. The project aims to establish a 4 GW capacity for solar cell manufacturing and a 4 GW capacity for solar module manufacturing, to be developed in two phases of 2 GW each.

The company decided to shift this project to West Bengal after previously planning a similar 4 GW integrated project in Andhra Pradesh. By choosing a location near its existing operations in the Falta Special Economic Zone, Websol expects faster execution by leveraging its three decades of experience, established supplier relationships, and local skilled manpower in the state.

Websol is currently one of only 14 solar cell manufacturers in India approved under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) and is the only such manufacturer based in eastern India. The expansion is intended to create a larger integrated manufacturing base to support India’s increasing renewable energy requirements.
