Ontario Line Toronto tunnel contract awarded to Pape North

Metrolinx has awarded a CAD 4.32 billion (≈ USD 3.15 billion) contract for the Pape‑section of Toronto’s Ontario Line to the Pape North Connect consortium, which includes Webuild Civil Work, FCC Canada, Arcadis Professional Services (Canada) and Aecom Canada. The contract covers the construction of roughly 3 km of twin tunnels beneath Pape Avenue, two underground stations at Pape and Cosburn, tunnel portals, technical buildings and a track crossover, and integrates the new infrastructure with the existing Line 2 of Toronto’s subway network.

The Ontario Line is a 15.6 km rapid‑transit project with 15 stations linking Exhibition Place to the Science Centre. When completed, it is expected to carry up to 47,000 passengers per hour in each direction and to enter service in the early 2030s. Webuild, holding a 50 % stake in the joint‑venture, announced the contract in euros (€2.7 billion) and highlighted the project’s role in reducing travel times across the Toronto metropolitan area to under 30 minutes end‑to‑end.
