WEC Lauwersoog faces bankruptcy after loss of government support

The WEC Lauwersoog seal rescue and Wadden exhibition center is facing potential bankruptcy after the municipality of Het Hogeland and the province of Groningen declined to provide further financial support. Director Bas Wemmenhove stated that the organization has no remaining prospects and intends to file for bankruptcy within fourteen days if a rescue plan is not successfully implemented in that timeframe.

Wemmenhove expressed feeling “incredibly let down” by the decision, noting that the lack of clear motivation from local authorities has left the organization and its staff in a dire position. The decision has also caused significant dissatisfaction among the center's creditors and contractors.
