WeChat Channels video feed adds 50% year‑on‑year views as user base swells
WeChat Channels, the short‑video and livestream feed embedded in Tencent's WeChat app, recorded a year‑on‑year increase of over 50% in total video views, reaching 1.336 billion combined monthly active users for WeChat and its sister service Weixin. Advertising revenue from the platform rose more than 30% YoY and now accounts for more than half of Weixin’s total ad revenue. New features include extending video length to 30 minutes, live‑streaming capabilities, and testing of in‑feed advertising.
The platform’s growth reflects a broader shift in China’s short‑video market, where more than 80% of internet users watch short videos daily. While Douyin and Kuaishou dominate headlines, a third of short‑video attention is split among platforms such as Bilibili, Xiaohongshu, and the rapidly expanding WeChat Channels, which is now overtaking Douyin in daily active users according to recent market data.
