WeChat clarifies unfriend notification feature for high-volume users

A feature regarding unfriend notifications on WeChat has recently trended on social media, leading to widespread user discussion. The feature is not a general update for all users; rather, it is an existing mechanism designed for users whose contact lists have reached the maximum limit of 10,000 friends.

When a user hits this limit and attempts to add new contacts, the system displays a prompt listing individuals who have unilaterally deleted the user. This allows the user to manually select and remove these contacts to free up space. WeChat's public relations director clarified that the function is intended as an outlet for managing relationships for high-volume users rather than a tool to satisfy social curiosity or anxiety regarding being unfriended.

Tencent customer service also noted that while the system provides a list of contacts who have deleted the user, it does not currently support a full batch viewing of all deleted contacts; users must select individuals manually from the prompt.
