WeChat HarmonyOS version surpasses 70 million installations

On August 5, Huawei’s App Market announced that the WeChat app built for HarmonyOS had been installed on more than 70 million unique devices, marking a key milestone for the operating system’s ecosystem. The figure counts each device only once, excluding reinstallations or updates, and reflects rapid adoption after the launch of new Huawei devices such as the Pura 90 series and the rollout of HarmonyOS 6.1.

Since its debut in January 2025, the HarmonyOS version of WeChat has received over 21 major and 199 minor updates, bringing core functions—messaging, payments, Moments, video channels, mini‑programs—into line with Android and iOS releases. New capabilities include AI‑generated songs and cross‑system QR‑code transfers. Analysts say the app’s success provides a benchmark for other leading services, prompting Alipay, Douyin and others to speed up HarmonyOS support, while the native‑app catalog now exceeds 400,000 offerings.
