Wedgewood Polling admits to fabricating election data

Wedgewood Polling has admitted to fabricating election survey data, describing the operation as an “experimental project” intended to expose vulnerabilities in the polling industry and the lack of scrutiny by media organizations.

The fraudulent data was incorporated into prominent election-tracking databases and circulated by news outlets. In response, The New York Times removed 15 surveys attributed to Wedgewood that were conducted between June and October.

The impact of the fabricated numbers was noted in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Michigan, where candidate Mallory McMorrow reportedly saw a collapse in fundraising and volunteer morale after a Wedgewood poll placed her support at 9%. McMorrow subsequently withdrew from the primary contest.

This incident follows a similar occurrence involving “Median Strategies,” a sham operation run by Rahil Prakash that released fictitious numbers regarding a Los Angeles mayoral race.
