Weekly Shonen Jump circulation drops below 1 million for first time
Shueisha’s flagship manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump reported a print circulation of 985,000 copies for the April‑June 2026 quarter, marking the first time its quarterly sales have fallen below one million since official statistics began in 2008. The magazine, which once reached a record 6.35 million copies for a New Year issue in 1995, has seen a steady decline as digital reading, webtoons and e‑books erode demand for paper manga. The drop follows a broader contraction in Japan’s print manga market, with other major titles such as Weekly Shonen Magazine (281,000 copies) and Weekly Shonen Sunday (120,000 copies) also reporting low figures. No Japanese paper magazine now exceeds one million copies in circulation. Shueisha has responded by expanding its digital platform, offering Weekly Shonen Jump online and on mobile devices, but the shift underscores a significant transformation in how readers consume manga.
