Weert architectural book featuring 300 drawings to be presented

The book ‘Was getekend… gemeente Weert’ will be officially presented on Saturday, October 10, at 14:00 in the foyer of the Munttheater. The publication features more than 300 pen drawings of prominent buildings, streets, and squares within the city of Weert and its surrounding church villages, such as Laar, Stramproy, and Boshoven.

The detailed illustrations were created by Gerard van Heugten between 2020 and the summer of 2026. The Weert city guides provided captions for each drawing, which detail the historical and architectural significance of the structures, often incorporating anecdotes about the buildings and their residents. While most drawings are in black and white, some include color, such as the family coat of arms of Count Jacob III in the Sint Martinuskerk.

During the presentation, the first copies will be presented to Geert Gabriels and Mayor Raymond Vlecken. The event, organized by Stichting Stadsgidsen Weert, will feature musical accompaniment by chansonnier Fons Heuvelmans. Admission to the event is free, and those who have pre-ordered the book may collect their copies at the venue.
