Weezer to release new self-titled album on August 21
The Californian alternative rock band Weezer is releasing a new self-titled album, ‘Weezer’, on Friday, August 21, via Reprise/Warner Records. This marks the band’s twentieth studio album and continues their tradition of color-themed releases.
The project was developed through collaborative rehearsal sessions in Orange County, where the band focused on writing and playing together in a room. Notably, frontman Rivers Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson collaborated on song foundations for the first time since their debut album. The production features two distinct approaches: Klas Ahlunde utilized a mathematical and rigorous recording method, while producer Kenneth Blume (Kenny Beats) aimed for a raw, ‘rock band in a room’ atmosphere without pitch correction or digital grids.
Key tracks include ‘Say Yes’, featuring Cuomo’s falsetto, and the single ‘We Might As Well Be Strangers’, which includes a guest appearance by Karly Hartzman of the band Wednesday. Other highlighted tracks include ‘Don’t Make it Weird’, ‘C.E.O.’, and the acoustic-to-rock transition in ‘Up in the Clouds’.
