WEG acquires land in India for US$ 8 million to expand operations
Brazilian electrical equipment manufacturer WEG has announced the acquisition of a 400,000 square meter plot of land in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, for US$ 8 million, approximately R$ 44 million. The site is located 95 kilometers from the company's existing manufacturing park in Hosur.
The acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to increase production capacity in India and facilitate the verticalization of industrial processes. WEG has operated in India since 2011 and currently maintains five units in the country, producing electric motors, generators, voltage regulators, and frequency inverters. With this new land, the company's total area in India will exceed 625,000 square meters, supporting a local workforce of approximately 2,000 people.
The expansion follows a period of significant growth in the Asia-Pacific region, where revenue rose 19.6% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026. This move also aligns with a shift in the company's revenue profile, as international sales accounted for 62.5% of total revenue during the same period.
