WEG expands global footprint with new wind turbine and US acquisition
Brazilian electrical equipment manufacturer WEG has announced two significant developments in its international expansion and technological portfolio. The company has completed the type certification for its AGW172/7.0 wind turbine, a high-power model featuring a 172-meter rotor and a 7 MW nominal capacity. This certification validates the AGW 7.X platform, which is designed to enhance operational efficiency and reliability for global wind energy projects.
In a separate move, WEG has acquired a division of the American company L&S Electric for approximately US$ 11 million (R$ 55 million). Based in Wisconsin, the acquired division maintains an installed base of over 1,200 hydroelectric generating units across the United States and Canada. This acquisition is intended to bolster WEG's presence in the North American hydroelectric market, specifically supporting the modernization and automation of existing facilities.
