Wegovy oral tablet to launch in France by November 2026
Novo Nordisk is preparing to launch an oral tablet version of its obesity medication, Wegovy, in France starting in November 2026. The tablet contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that works by influencing satiety mechanisms to reduce appetite.
Unlike the current weekly injectable version, the oral tablet must be taken daily. The administration requires strict protocols to ensure proper absorption: the tablet must be taken in the morning on an empty stomach after at least eight hours of fasting, followed by a 30-minute wait before consuming food, liquids, or other medications. The dosage will start low and gradually increase to 25 mg per day to help the body adjust and minimize digestive side effects.
Separately, applications have been filed to have the Wegovy obesity drug qualify for health insurance coverage, a move aimed at managing obesity-related complications through more cost-effective early intervention.
